2. Pedernales Cellars — Stonewall, TX
Pedernales Cellars sits on 45 acres in the heart of the Hill Country and specializes in Spanish and Rhône varietals — particularly Tempranillo, which has found an exceptional home in the Texas climate. 3. Fall Creek Vineyards — Tow, TX
One of the original Texas winery pioneers, Fall Creek Vineyards operates on the shores of Lake Lyndon B. Johnson and produces an impressive range across their several Hill Country estates. Their Unoaked Chardonnay is particularly celebrated. The lakeside setting makes this a beautiful stop in any season.
4. William Chris Vineyards — Hye, TX
If you want to taste what Texas wine can be at its most expressive, William Chris is a must-visit. This boutique winery focuses exclusively on 100% Texas-grown grapes and is known for their Mourvèdre and Marsanne. The tasting experience is intimate and education-forward — your host will teach you as much as you want to know.
5. Duchman Family Winery — Driftwood, TX
Just 30 minutes from Austin in the tiny town of Driftwood, Duchman Family Winery is the closest world-class winery to the city. Their focus is Italian varietals grown in Texas soil — Vermentino, Aglianico, and Dolcetto — all with surprising depth. The sprawling estate is gorgeous and regularly hosts live music on weekends.
6. Spicewood Vineyards — Spicewood, TX
Spicewood Vineyards has been a quiet overachiever on the Texas wine scene for decades. Their Cabernet Franc and estate Chardonnay consistently earn national attention. The winery's intimate feel and knowledgeable tasting room staff make this a favorite for returning visitors who want a genuine conversation about what's in the glass.
7. Solaro Estate — Marble Falls, TX
A newer addition to the Hill Country wine scene, Solaro Estate brings Italian winemaking traditions to the banks of Lake Marble Falls. Their Sangiovese and Montepulciano are standouts, and the views from the estate over the lake are genuinely breathtaking. Worth the slightly longer drive from Austin.
